To apply the skills and knowledge acquired from two decades of personal and professional experience with technology, networking, and electronics towards a fulfilling new career with opportunity to grow.
From a young age I've held a deep fascination with computers and technology. Disassembling broken electronics naturally developed into repairing them, so I was excited at the opportunity to freely experiment with the outdated family computer when it came time to upgrade it. Seeking more performance, I installed used parts and Slax Linux on a second hard drive. I was immediately smitten with Linux, but became truly enamored after installing the free Live CD of Ubuntu Feisty Fawn I had mail ordered. Not long after, I installed Ubuntu Server and ran the computer “headless” - my first server. From then on I've always run at least one computer as a Linux server 24/7, providing services for my family, my friends, and myself. Ultimately I chose to pursue my passion for cameras and filmmaking as a career, starting in my high school and college’s broadcast television studios. My technical interests never waned, and at the University of Illinois I served as the technology chair of my fraternity where I revitalized our 50+ endpoint network and computer lab. Since graduating, I've maintained consistent and healthy business as a freelance camera operator. I very much enjoy and am passionate about the work, particularly the opportunity to collaborate directly with clients. But simultaneous to broader changes in the video industry, the shifting of my goals towards more long term intentions of stability and growth no longer align with freelancing, which is why I'm seeking to apply my acquired skills to a new career. Modern broadcast technologies employ traditional networking for video transmission, so in addition to my personal technical pursuits, I've gained a wealth of experience designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting networks during my professional endeavours. Concepts like uptime and fallbacks are vital in broadcast video, along with many more skills that translate to other technical work. I'm adept at installing fiber and copper cabling, terminating and testing coax and Cat6, building and working in racks, mapping signal flow, and RF analysis among other abilities. Since 2009 I've been writing C++ for Arduino compatible microcontrollers, teaching myself the basics of electrical engineering along the way, and have deployed many self-built smart devices in my home. Combining hardware and software to solve daily problems provides me with much fulfillment. I also develop in Bash, Java, Python, and wrote the markup for this resume using HTML and CSS. I'm able to communicate at a basic level in Japanese, Spanish, and French among other languages. I have a strong intuition for problem solving and I'm confident that I'll be able forge my broad personal and professional experience into a robust foundation of skills for my next career. I'm looking for a position surrounded by knowledgeable colleagues who I can learn from and a team I that can contribute to. I'm up for a challenge and ready to jump into an environment where I can apply my passions - it's where I thrive the most. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and review my application, I hope to hear back from you soon!
